  1. Yes, and that is why BPD is not a medically valid and reliable diagnosis. It would be better used as a metaphorical term for the spectrum or continuum of problems created by severe abuse and neglect.


  2. I agree that it is a spectrum. Mine isn’t as severe as others’. I wasn’t severely abused as a child. I was teased by my peers at school which was emotionally abusive. It still affects me to this day. It is a very difficult thing to diagnose. Many people wait years, undiagnosed or misdiagnosed as depressed, bipolar, etc. I was diagnosed with depression. It wasn’t until I was 35 that I was finally properly diagnosed, maybe because mine wasn’t as severe, and because I am a Quiet Borderline. That was about 10 years ago. I’ve had Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and am doing much better now, but I still have my bad days. I still experience the same intense emotions, I just know how to manage my behaviours more appropriately.
