Can there be a Dual Diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder and Personality Disorder?

It says here that BPD is on the border between psychosis and neurosis.  It used to be believed to be true.  We now know that this is not the case.  However, the belief has stuck, along with the name Borderline.  Other names are sometimes used instead of Borderline Personality Disorder, including Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD)

It also says here that people with BPD harm themselves.  Not everyone with BPD self-harms, although many do.  Approximately 75% of those with Borderline Personality Disorder self-harm or attempt suicide at least once.

It also says that there is no cure for BPD.  While that is true, there is treatment.  One of the best treatments is Dialectical Behaviour Therapy or DBT.  I want to make it clear that recovery is possible, meaning that you no longer meet enough criteria for a diagnosis of BPD.  I am in recovery.  My emotions no longer control me, I am in control of them.

Other than that, a great article that describes dual diagnosis with Bipolar Disorder and BPD:
